On the 26th of July an event took place at the community centre involving 4 acoustic acts in the cafe, free food, and a movie night upstairs which included two documentaries; We jam Econo and The Story of the Minutemen.
The event was an overall success. Bryony, Menna, Jack Harding and Jake Pezzack all performed wonderful sets and the movie night didn’t fail to entertain.
A big thank you to everyone who came down and showed support, to the volunteers who ran the event, and to all the acts!
A big welcome to all the members, volunteers, and staff involved in Teenscheme this year! The (unusually) hot weather has meant that groups have been able to go to the park or for outdoor trips, but the members have also found time to let out their artistic sides this week! Here’s some of their creations!
Massive thanks to all the pupils who came to the centre on work experience Last week. Ciarra and Rhiannon created and carried out a survey into peoples perceptions of the centre, and Hasan and Jaccob focused on promotional material by creating two posters for the centre (which are up in the main hall reception). All four pupils were a massive help in running both the centre and the cafe, so again thanks a lot and well done! A massive (and slightly late) thank you to Joel who joined us on work experience a few weeks ago. Amongst other things, he served customers in the cafe, helped set up the ‘battle of the bands’ gigs, and researched into different promotional methods! Finally, Daniel joined us as a foreign exchange student, and completed administrative work and worked in the reception. We hope to see you all at the centre again!
Here are the two posters created by Jaccob and Hasan!
Good news! Our broadband has recently been upgraded, so now we offer even better FREE WiFi in the Embassy Cafe! So whether you need to use the internet for studying or just catching up with social websites, come on down and sit in our delightful community cafe. Oh, and don’t forget we offer delicious tea and coffee
Big thanks to everyone that came along to this years AGM
Congratulations to Peter Wong on his election as Chair, Liz Doe as Vice Chair, and Jacob Takel as Treasurer. Another congratulations to all the Trustees and Youth Member Representatives that were re-elected, with Dave Andrews, Liz Doe, Jacob Takel, Joel Beswick, Peter Wong, Anna Wright, and Dylan James maintaining their place on the board. Finally, we are proud to welcome Chris Parry onto the management board as a youth member representative, and Andrea Heath as a trustee.
The meeting included an outline of future development plans, a couple of the key development plans included;
Redevelopment of the Old Bingo Hall. The bingo hall (roof and interior) is in need of repair. A plan is being developed to undertake this project. The bingo hall would potentially house new practice rooms and recording studios, which would free up space above the cafe for a new dance / yoga studio.
Interim Plans. Partitions will be used to create an enclosed meeting space in the lobby area of the main hall. A plan is being developed to extend the upstairs meeting room into the space currently used as an IT office.
The 2013 Annual Report was also presented, and a link to a PDF version will be available soon!
