Last Monday (25th of August) Cathays Community Centre hosted the Fair / Play fundraiser event in aid of Oxfam and Under Construction Youth Music Project.
Despite the awful weather, there was a good turnout with people of all ages turning up throughout the day. There were 3 raffles, with a huge amount of prizes handed out.
Entertainment included a freestyle football and basketball showcase, cupcake decorating, make your own glitter tattoos, and a ‘totsplay’ workshop for kids.
The main hall was full of stalls, with Lush Cardiff, The Body Shop, and Lilibuts Jewellery amongst the Stall holders. The Café was open and serving snacks and drinks, whilst KL Canolog and a cake and candy cart provided delicious food.
The Reception of the main hall played host to live music, both electric and acoustic. Bryony Sier, Brother Listen, and Stiph Richard provided thoroughly enjoyable sets throughout the day.
Thanks to everyone who provided entertainment, food, and stalls, as well as a big thank you of course to the Oxjam staff! Finally, a massive thanks to everyone who braved the weather and came along to raise money for good causes, we hope you all enjoyed!
On Friday 15th Cathays Community Centre held a successful fun day to celebrate the work of its Teenscheme members.
Amongst the events was a Puppet Show focusing on the subject of relationships, organised and produced by Teenscheme members, providing laughs for both parents and young people. The winner of the Bingo took home a selection of chocolates while there were several fun games taking place in the main hall.
A video of the 4 week Teenscheme experience was shown to parents.
A stall of donated items sold out, raising money for Oxfam, while the food stall also went down well with a variety of healthy fruit drinks also available.
Everyone at Cathays Community Centre would like to thank all the staff and volunteers for participating in this year’s Teenscheme, and of course a big thank you to all the members that came along this year, we hope you all enjoyed yourselves!
Here’s a timetable of all the events taking place at the centre this week. The next timetable will be up on Monday.
On the 26th of July an event took place at the community centre involving 4 acoustic acts in the cafe, free food, and a movie night upstairs which included two documentaries; We jam Econo and The Story of the Minutemen.
The event was an overall success. Bryony, Menna, Jack Harding and Jake Pezzack all performed wonderful sets and the movie night didn’t fail to entertain.
A big thank you to everyone who came down and showed support, to the volunteers who ran the event, and to all the acts!
A big welcome to all the members, volunteers, and staff involved in Teenscheme this year! The (unusually) hot weather has meant that groups have been able to go to the park or for outdoor trips, but the members have also found time to let out their artistic sides this week! Here’s some of their creations!
