Cathays Community Centre is supporting a more sustainable future with its recent addition of Photovoltaic Solar Panels onto the roof of the community hall. These panels will provide free electricity for the centre when the sun shines and will produce around 4000 kWh per annum. This achieves two important things:
- The solar energy will save the centre around £400 in electricity bills and also earn it around £700 from the Feed in Tariff scheme each year. This money can now be spent on running community activities.
- The centre is producing a renewable source of energy rather than using electricity from the national grid. This means that it will save over 2 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per annum. This is a help to all of us in the fight to tackle climate change.
The work was carried out by Urban Solar Ltd. led by Renew Wales project co-ordinator Peter Draper who is assisting with the transition of the Community Centre into a more energy conscious organisation.
This has all been made possible by grants received from Cardiff Council’s Community Buildings Grant and the Waterloo Foundation. Thanks are extended to both for their kind contributions.

Community Consultation Meeting |

We will be holding the first in a new series of community consultations. Tuesday 12th February, 7pm Tuesday 19th February, 1pm Friends, neighbours, & local folk are invited to share with us how they would like the community centre to be and to help take us in the right direction.
